I’m retired and can do whatever I feel like, can’t I?
I’m retired and can do whatever I feel like, right?
So, this is my Sunday Funday blog, one day late! It’s been a crazy week for me. I was ‘scammed’ out of 470.00 (which hurt my pride more than anything). It’s this way: I’ve always been a savvy businesswoman, starting and owning five businesses in my previous life. All were successful and profitable. Getting scammed is not something that happens to me… but it did. I did get my money back, but my pride will take some time.
I then came down with appendicitis (my diagnosis), which was debilitating. I had to get to a doctor right away before they burst! I was fortunate to get in within two hours. How often does that happen? Turns out my diagnosis was wrong, and the excruciating pain from my lower right side emanating into my back, wait for it … was diagnosed as Arthritis. Are you kidding me?
Arthritis is for old people, and I’d have never diagnosed myself with that, being old, yes, arthritis noooooo…! I left thinking she must be wrong, but taking Tylenol extra strength (doctor’s recommendation) eased the pain considerably. This also shook me up some: how do you live with arthritis? Lots of people do, but I don’t even know what the heck it consists of. Except pain…
Is there no end to all this shit as we age? Sciatica, high blood pressure, type two diabetes, gout… now that is another high-pain, agonizing, gem! I have since found out (from my dr. daughter) that gout is associated with arthritis. Who knew, certainly not me. Do I live with this pain every freaking day, or does it come and go? I have been waiting for my appendix to burst, but it’s been three days now, and I’m still here.
I’ve also been through quite a few Tylenol pills (I’m trying not to count). See, it’s like this: I’ve never been one to take pain meds. My son had a small capsule of them, which I immediately took possession of. It got me through getting a pedicure with my 9-year-old granddaughter, which he also paid for (he is very generous). That was Friday past.
Saturday, I’m starting to count how many pills are left, hmmmm. Sunday morning, I awoke to excruciating pain and was now panicking. I texted my cousin about my predicament and bringing pills? I know I have to write my blog, but the pain! I can’t go out because, well, I just can’t. I need to do my hair, do some makeup, and dress decently, and I had no patience for any of that.
My cousin was not answering my texts. While waiting, I was rummaging for something in the bottom drawer in my bathroom. OMG… I hit the motherlode; there wedged in a corner was a big full bottle of Extra Strength Tylenol!!!! 130 eZtabs of 500 mg each. Kill me now, I was that excited! I looked at the expiry date: 10/2022, hmmmmm 4 years!
Well, expiry dates are for people who adhere to strict protocols or whatever. I think expiry dates only count for fresh food (the freezer food never expires, right?) Okay, so I did Google it and found out it’s iffy at three years, and 10 stands for October of this year, so the caplets are 3 years and 3 months short of 4 years… good enough for me : )
Sooooo, to make a long story short, my appendix didn’t burst. My cousin did come over to visit and listen to me whine; I seriously needed this as well. I now have to look into what constitutes arthritis and how I’m going to live with it. I’ll need to wean myself off the meds and give myself an attitude adjustment concerning said meds. If I’m hurtin’, I’m taking em … there, attitude adjusted (that was easy enough : )
Lordy, Lordy, what else does old age have in store for me, us, or everyone? Yes, I know what the alternative is, and maybe this is why we have all this shit to deal with. Mother Nature is preparing us for death… yes, I wrote that right! We’re all going to die eventually, and that’s a fact. I want to be productive and enjoy my time here. If this means stocking up on meds, then so be it : )
I could have sworn I was having appendicitis, and I thought about doing a walk-in clinic for a second opinion. But that never happened, and I now have a new friend, his name is Ty Lenol. I needed a new friend anyway; I’m still single, and Ty can share my bed with me and keep me happy … what more can I ask for?
And there you have it, my Sunday (not so funday) Blog… one day late.
