life in the last lane

Life in the Last Lane

Well, it’s been a minute, actually three days of minutes. My phone, computer, and TV were conspiring against me to keep me unplugged. I might be okay with being off the grid for a few days but not having my computer locks me out of my writing, and that’s unacceptable.

So here I sit at my computer writing my Sunday blog and omg, I’m so bloody happy to have all my shit working again. Being unplugged is a pain but not an insurmountable obstacle. Putting an actual pen to paper is a mountain I’m not about to climb any time soon.  Forgetting how to spell, is also a side effect of old age. Thank goodness for spellcheck.

Changing my phone plan when I arrived home, brought about a bonus of 150 gigabytes on my data. Being used to having only 15 or 20 was fine for me and I never had to have internet while down south using my ‘hotspot data’ on my phone is sufficient. Getting 120 more megabytes or gigabytes or whatever they are, is beyond my comprehension, so I decided to cancel my wifi here at my condo.

Being IT-challenged in old age is not pretty and I’m still waiting on some high school students to make a business outta helping us seniors with all this crap. Anyway… long story short, I decided to cancel my internet, saving me 74.95 monthly from 67.46 the previous month.  I discussed this with my Sasktel rep and she assured me my Max TV would not be affected.

I don’t stream Netflix or any of the exciting new channels, I’m old school :  (  This change took place four days ago and threw me into a special hell of my own making. BUT, what doesn’t kill me only makes me less enchanted with all this crap. C’mon you high school kids, I’m willing to give you 25 bucks.. okay maybe 30 even, for you to come over and fix my high-tech ignorance. But you do have to travel to my place, I’ll even do some baking (she lies, sorry/not sorry).

I tried everything to fix my problems but was sure I made them worse. I was eliminating apps and blocking cookies while eating cookies lol, why do they call them cookies I wonder? but don’t care. My phone still worked but no social media nor could I get into WordPress on my computer. I do all my writing there.

Meantime the weather turned shitty, May long weekend and all, so it was stressful for me. Thank goodness my sweetie left to go back home to the heat because none was happening here, other than you now where, sorry/not sorry :  )

So enough background and whining, I break down and phone SaskTel with not much expectations. My first surprise was that I got a real person within a few minutes.  My second surprise was he guided me to my settings on my phone to cancel my SaskTel WiFi! Problem solved! OMG, it was that simple. Same for my computer, cancel the WiFi and reconnect to my phone data, voila’ I have my computer back.

That was Friday, then my TV  took a turn for the worse. I had to go to bed early and I was somewhat pissed that I had to miss Bluebloods. I couldn’t get my fix of Tom and that’s why I went to bed… to pout. Stupid TV, and was it the canceled WiFi that incurred this roadblock?

Some of you probably think I need to get a life and you’re right. I do have a life and it is here somewhere but damn, I have been south for so long I have forgotten where it is. So Saturday morning rolls around and I resign myself to phoning SaskTel, figuring this will require a technician to come and fix it. At least I have my computer running and can return to writing.

The SaskTel technician walked me through the complicated process of unplugging my TV box for a couple minutes and then plugging it back in. (btw, I did turn the power bar off, which didn’t include the TV box apparently) Voila’ my TV is magically working again, go figure!

So here I sit writing my blog, happier than a pig in shit, do people still say that? This one was virtually painless and I have a new respect and LOVE for SaskTel (which we own, in Saskatchewan).  Life is good, oh well it’s not perfect, my microwave over my stove died this week. My brother came to dispose of the remains yesterday and I am left to ponder how to cook without it, hmmmmm…

First-world problems I know.  I’m making bortsch today to celebrate my return to my roots, Canadian and Ukrainian. It’s Sunday and the sun is out and that’s a wrap.

Happy Funday Sunday to all of you.
