Mikkis amazing bday
Mikkis amazing bday
Funday Sunday Blog time, and what should I write about? Being home is still a little bit disorienting for me. The cold isn’t bothering me a bit. I actually appreciate it and think I’ll be okay spending my winters back in my own country. I say that now, but when it turns below minus 40, I will probably change my tune, right: ) lol.
My daughters fiftieth birthday party at the lake had to be cancelled two weeks ago. A heavy snowstorm pretty much shut down everything. Thank goodness I made it home one day before this all happened. The birthday party was rescheduled to this past Friday, and oh, what a party she put on. Everyone dressed fifties style, and it was so much fun.
The attention to detail that she put into this boggled my mind. It was at the lake in their big, heated shop, and about sixty people made it a truly fun and happy party. We were all blown away by the attention to detail from the fifties. She had vintage newspaper articles, posters, and even old vinyl records. Also, VHS tapes, one was a vintage movie of Marilyn Monroe, ‘Some Like it Hot’, and a gal dressed as Marilyn, won that.
We had Johnny Cash, leather and pearls, poodle skirts, and… it was freaking awesome. Newspaper articles from the fifties and fifties furniture and even fifties candy bars and bubble gum machine, and, and, omg! I will post a few pictures. My daughter put a lot of thought and work into this party, and it was a one-of-a-kind occasion.
I was truly impressed with all the details, too numerous to mention here. I wore a dress that was a little tight and also needed help to zip it up at the back. My nine-year-old granddaughter had to have help while one zipped and the other held the material together omg, kill me now. But they made it happen, and when I turned in a bit early/really late for me… There was no one there to unzip me, and I had to sleep in it.
The worst part about that was that everyone was sleeping in the next morning. I ended up going back over to my daughter’s for the unzipping. I was staying at my son’s cabin, but they weren’t even stirring after an hour of me making surreptitious sounds to awaken them. My daughters’ cabin had a full house of babies and adults, and I knew that with the babies, someone would be up.
Turns out that I missed the party’s funniest highlight (they partied til three in the morning, btw), my daughter had a few party highlights. They had a challenge to see who could put on a depends on their partner the fastest. Sounds innocent enough, but they couldn’t use their hands… omg I saw some video highlights, and it was pretty funny. I have no idea where she comes up with these ideas.
Such a busy weekend, a baby shower on Saturday in Warman and omg… There were so many babies there! Seems we are having a baby boom, and how exciting is that? I had forgotten how much fun and love for these precious infants we carry inside of us, and it comes out spilling forth all over the place. How lucky are we?
Well, it’s also Mother’s Day today, and I’m ready for a break. I told the kids we can celebrate it two weeks from now. My birthday is coming up as well, and we can celebrate both at the same time. If Mikki (my daughter) can do it, so can I. See, it is this way, with so many different places they have to be (broken marriages, married again, grandparents, and great-grandparents), my granddaughter hated holidays because of this.
I’m loath to cause more stress for any of them. So, I’ll bake homemade buns, cook our family seashells recipe, and invite them all over to use the pool, eat, drink, and be merry…
Stress-free, right? … gotta love it
Happy Mother’s Day to me
