Hallelujah.. it’s my Monday Funday Blog
OMG, it is 19C and I am basking in the coolness here in Yuma AZ. The Fahrenheit equivalent you’ll have to look up, I’m done figuring out the differences. (well my phone is lol) It’s been a minute and time for me to catch up on what’s happening in the world and my own small part in it.
First off, I’m in my happy place but sans a car. Deciding to fly from Saskatoon to Vegas direct was a last-minute decision. The price was right, 195.00 Canadian including taxes. West Jet you continue to surprise me. I usually have to scan different sites for deals but West Jet had its own ‘cheap tickets’ site, when did that happen I wonder? It came with a parachute and when directly over Vegas we could jump out : ) A checked bag was an extra 30 bucks.
What I didn’t count on, is that making my way to Laughlin would be a big pain in the ass! Trying to find a shuttle was impossible so I had to rent a car. I’ve been to Vegas too many times to even count, Laughlin is a much nicer, quieter and serene setting situated along the Colorado River, and I love it there. So I had to rent a car and it turns out all the economy cars were gone. They had to put me and the rest of the lineup into luxury cars.. bummer eh, insert happy face here : )
A brand-new Audi turned out to be the new love of my life for the next six days. I could write a whole blog about my inexperience with all the new-fangled options in this particular car, but I’m afraid of losing my driver’s license. Needless to say, it was very iffy making it to Searchlight only 52 miles away. Stopping to figure out how to adjust my outside mirrors was excruciating and trying to find the cruise control.. and, and, when I went through the drive-through at McDonalds I swear my car turned off and then started up again wth?
The love part of this car was how the seat adjusted to make me feel ensconced in a fluffy cloud and it hugged me like I was in the womb. That it was almost impossible to slip in and out of that seat, once it adjusted to my bountiful body, didn’t matter. I thought I had turned it off once, but it was still running when I got back from picking something up. Okay so that happened a few times, I’m not perfect. The gas gauge was also hidden in plain view (from me) until it was time to take it back and I had to fill up. Everything about that car was crazy different and taxed my intelligence, what I had left of it. But I did it… somewhat, lol.
A Prevnar #20 pneumonia shot (142.00 Canadian) two days before I left, gave me an unwanted reaction that I’m still recovering from a week later. Why do we have to pay for our shots when we have free health care? I could have had the Prevnar #13 for free but I wanted the new one because it had some protection for RSV. I declined the COVID shot and the flu shot because I figured this one would protect me from pneumonia, which is what I feel like I have, whenever I get sick. Anyways I’m just throwing this in for us old people, sometimes it sucks being old. This reaction was a surprise to me, so I did a lot of sleeping and coughing up crap, drinking lots of fluids, and of course some gambling : )
The gambling gods were good to me, if they took my money they also gave it back. I would then try to lose it again, which happened a few times. In the end, I got all my money back and some of theirs, not bad for getting there Sunday and not leaving until Wednesday. The Aquarius is my favorite Hotel/Casino and I slept, coughed, and ingested soup and liquids the whole time I was there, along with satisfying my vice for gambling.
I finally made my way back to my winter home here in Yuma and had to turn in my new love on Saturday. Being without a car is not totally true, I have a special friend who likes to keep me happy : ) He has a car and has given me the use of it whenever I need it.
Did I mention that I am in my happy place here outside on my covered patio, writing this blog and thanking the Gods for this cooler weather? I hear it’s going to snow this week back home and I feel for them, I really do. There but for the grace of God… and I am grateful every day for my life.
That’s it for now, I have a petition to distribute for getting our Free Table back, here at the clubhouse. I will explain in another blog. I also need to get some writing done. My writer friend in Toronto, Bill Jermyn, has had his book published and it’s on Amazon “Only Dead Fish Swim With The Current” It’s a memoir and it is witty, funny, and truly inspiring.
WOW, I need to get my ass in gear, congrats Bill I am so jealous, but also so happy for you.
