I’m living the dream… in Utah

Well, I made it to my gf house late Friday night. I avoided death twice, my new eyes and a full moon, kept me from hitting a deer in the middle of the road on Thursday evening. That sucker just stood his ground, and I had to come to an almost full stop.  This was no mean feat at the speed I was travelling; I did slow down after that.

I got an early start Friday morning after spending a great night at the Comfort Inn in Shelby Montana. The room was clean and cheap, and the bed was comfy and smelled of fresh linens. I hit the pillow at nine at night and didn’t awaken for 7 hours! Didn’t even need a pee run, this is a three- or four-time thing for me (sorry, old people thang)

Breakfast was free and I took advantage of this; they even had bacon on the menu! Oh and I should mention the border crossing before I get into this further. It was a piece of cake and also cost me my bag of oranges, damn. I have been flying south the last couple years, forgot about the citrus thing. The border guard was really nice and even gave me a couple recommendations for spending the night in Shelby.

On the road Friday morning and a beautiful sunny day, plus 10 Celsius. I did hit a bad spell, but it was only for an hour through some mountainous areas. It did make me a little ill thinking I may have to drive home in winter conditions. Ah well, that is not my concern for a couple months yet. I will be selling my place in Yuma this winter… wawwww.

My feelings of relief making it through the border is infectious and the great night’s sleep also helped. I’m fed and watered and have a ten-hour drive ahead of me to get to my friend Netties place in Lehi, Utah. The scenery is amazing, and I feel so happy to have this opportunity to enjoy yet another road trip by myself. No naps on Thursday and yesterday no naps, I’m feeling pretty good.

Reaching Salt Lake City during daylight hours was my goal and I achieved that in spades. But of course, this was too good to be true. I arrived around five, but the traffic was horrendous, and we slowed down to barely crawling.  Unfortunately, this was off and on and by the time I was only as far as Draper it was dark, traffic was speeding up and so was I.

And just like that the car I was following came to a full stop and I was still travelling at a good clip. The rest is still surreal to me… I slammed on my brakes, oh, and we were in five lanes of traffic across, all going the same way. I couldn’t stop fast enough and swerved across to my right to miss hitting this car and then my car served back into the other lan, sorta like an S pattern and omg….

I’m still in dis-belief that I wasn’t in a horrible accident.  The lanes I swerved into were either empty or they got out of my way, and I carried on in a trancelike state. My higher power was definitely with me, and I’m truly grateful. I made it to my friend’s house around 7:00 pm and I was done. I told her I’m here to stay and, and, and…. My daughter was right, driving all this distance is not a good way to go for old people …  and I’m loathe to get back on the road again.

Stay tuned, not sure how this is all going to go play out to get back home in the real winter… YIKES!

And that it’s for me, I gotta go, they are having a party for me right now and I have to finish this and post it.

BUT I MADE IT :  ) and this too shall pass…
