I’m ‘unfettering’ my old lady voice’ this morning. I’ve been trying to stay out of trouble here in the States, but as most here who know me, sometimes I need to stand up and be counted! I’m proud to be a Canadian and live in a free country, thanks in part to my dad and his three brothers, all farm boys from Saskatchewan. They fought off a mentally deranged dictator in WWll, and well… you know all the rest.
The latest insult from the incoming administration here on January 20th, 2025 is Tariffs against Canada once again. It seems we are letting immigrants flock through our borders and into the States, concealing drugs yet! OMG… where the hell does he get this shit from? and they’re gonna punish us with TARIFFS… REALLY?
I’m so close to quitting this country and seriously considering spending my winters in Mexico. Many of my friends and cousins do this specifically because of the political landscape here. I have personal reasons to stay. We’ll see come January, I guess. He’s going to deport every immigrant (millions btw) and is also promising retribution to everyone opposing him.
I wonder how we would vote in Canada if opposition leaders ran for office by threatening retribution to the ‘enemy within’ (which in the States he’s talking about American citizens) and promising to fire federal employees who don’t agree with their agendas? Oh, I forgot, pardoning criminals is also high on the orange ones’ incoming agenda. Being a convicted felon, he will surely pardon himself as well. His recent list of appointees includes another convicted felon, his daughters’ father-in-law, Jarred Kushner’s daddy, and an ambassadorship to France, no less. He had pardoned him from going to jail for tax evasion when he was in office the first time around, hmmm… sound familiar?
The United States of America has a famous actual immigrant to help the orange one carry out his agenda. Elon Musk is an immigrant from South Africa and Canada possessing citizenships in both countries while obtaining a green card and becoming a U.S. citizen as well.
Without Immigrants helping to build our countries we wouldn’t even be here. All of us are descended from immigrants unless we are of indigenous descent. We should be grateful don’t you think? What is going to become of North America, which includes Canada (the second largest country in the world, next to Russia) the United States, and Mexico as well as four smaller countries? Will our countries be singled out to become the enemy as well I wonder? Here is a novel thought, will we need to build a wall to keep out the disenchanted Americans, those who will be persecuted under the Orange ones’ reign of terror?
The world is a big place, but none of us is immune to dictators, look around at countries that are not free. I’m grateful for all that I have and proud of my country as well. We need to take a stand against dictatorship and maybe it’s time we as Canadians send a message to those who threaten us with stupid hurtful allegations and tariffs.
Maybe we should rethink our retirement and leisure travel destinations. Mexico beckons and I love Portugal. Being the second largest country in the world with so much untapped wealth, I’m sure we can find trading partners elsewhere. Do we want The States with the orange one coming back into power, calling our shots? I don’t think so. Being named the best county in the world to live in, many times over, we can also stay home.
As Canadians, we live longer than Americans and our IQ in Canada is 6th highest in the world (Americans are 49th) South Korea is 1st… I know, go figure. I needed to throw that info in because we seldom brag about ourselves and our country. I honestly don’t understand what is happening here. Everyone knows he’s a liar and a cheater and he has the morals of an alleycat. He’s a convicted felon and just not a good person. We need good people in government positions to defend democracy, decency, and our freedoms.
Sending out threats to your citizens and appointing your inner circle of friends to government positions… really? Shouldn’t these require some sort of experience to lead your military, and especially your national intelligence agencies? Omg, it is like watching a soap opera and I’m sorry but this may be entertaining for some, but this affects our life in Canada as well.
I want to be positive because Canada is a part of North America, the biggest part, in land and natural resources, only very small in population though. But it’s hard watching this ‘shit show’ play out on TV daily. We, in Canada and the rest of the world, can only hope for the best… but it’s not looking very promising.
When dictators flourish, they look after themselves and their very own interests, and guess how this turns out? You nailed it, time to immigrate to a free country …. Lord I hope we survive this incoming threat, as a country and also as a part of North America.
ps: I am not the enemy from within, far from it, I love this country and consider it my second home. I’m hoping for the best but I need to plan for the worst.
