Grapes of wrath? Na, unless they are American grapes

Being a Canadian has never been more important to me than this year. The shit show in the States right now is causing unnecessary chaos in the world. We used to be a friendly country and, dare I say, ‘kissing cousins’ with the country south of us. Not so anymore, and this is a direct result of their duly elected, and dare I say, incompetent president.

I’m in my happy place at the lake for our Canadian August long weekend. I have written so many blogs here in the last ten years or more. I always wake early and take my coffee out onto the deck, set up my computer as I gaze out onto the idyllic scene before me. Ahhhhh…. this is the life, peace, and serenity surround me, and life is good.

My family has cabins here as well, and we are all mostly family here on this side of the lake. Later on, I plan on going tubing on the lake. This was brought on by my kids egging me on last night, geez, they think I’m too old and senile, I guess. Well, in case this could be true, I should be making out my last will and testament, lol.

Shopping for groceries on my way here brought out my Canadian heritage, big time. This never would have happened last year, but this year everything has changed, and not for the better. I was looking at the packages of grapes, green ones, and they all looked the same, in the same ‘bin’ even.

BUT… what the heck is this? I looked a little closer and of course spotted the little logo, Canadian flag on the corner packaging.  The other packaging was the same, but no red flag… hmmm. Investigating further, I see they are from the States. Geez, nice try, but I always check the labels now, ALWAYS!

While I selected a package from the ones grown in Canada, another shopper stopped and picked up a package from the ones grown in the United States!  I casually mentioned to him that those grapes were American, and he immediately threw them back, lol. These are the Canadian grapes, “hard to tell, I know.” “But they are just a wee bit smarter,” I laughed jokingly, sorry/not sorry.

I’ve made a conscious effort to support my country, and I’m so pissed that it has come down to this. Funny thing is, and it’s really not funny at all, most of us here in Canada feel the same way I do. What a way to bring a country together, eh? I’m not sure the Americans realize how the whole world feels about the shit going down in their country and affecting us globally.

This has been a wake-up call for all of us, and I don’t think we will ever feel the same about our ‘kissing cousins’ again. I’m torn because I own a place in Arizona. It’s going to be hard to let that go, but I think that may be my only option. By keeping it, I feel I’m supporting what’s happening there and how we in Canada are being so disrespected!

Okay, sorry about that. Seems I can’t get away from political observations and ‘rants’, Lord, I hope I make it across the border to at least get to my place so I can put it up for sale. I’m kinda short and squat, and I don’t want to be mistaken for an illegal Mexican. Down south, I’m always being mistaken for one, which is fine as long as ICE isn’t around.

So, getting to the end of my blog, I have to mention the peanut butter on my shopping trip. I had to check all of the jars and brands to find one actually manufactured in Canada. This was no mean feat, do you even know how many brands of peanut butter are out there? OMG

I mention the peanut butter only because I’m having it on toast this morning for breakfast. I also want to mention here that I’ve been trying to eat healthy, and I’ve been working out pretty much every morning for over a year now. Seems I’ve decided to start taking care of myself in my old age.

While waiting for my toast to pop up, I casually read the list of ingredients on my Canadian ‘smooth’ peanut butter. OMG, kill me now, the second on the list is ICING SUGAR, yep… icing sugar in peanut butter! Who knew….

And that, my friends, is a wrap. Now to get ready for my tubing experience… yikes!

Footnote: Tubing was a success, I surprised all those who figured I was going to calf out or get thrown clear! I taught all these young-uns to waterski and swim, even, sheesh
